Is there a such a thing as being too nice?
I think that the Bible calls us to be nice, giving, loving, sacrificing, forgiving people.
Is there a such a thing as being taken advantage of because you are too nice?
I think there is but it is a small price to pay considering the price that Jesus paid for our sins so that we might one day be with Him.
Do you get hurt sometimes because you are taken advantage of?
I haven't found a place in the Bible that speaks about how you will never be hurt or taken advantage of or that life won't be tough sometimes. As a person in and of the world, yes it hurts, but again...a small price to pay. And God will reward us in Heaven one day which we don't deserve so I guess we shouldn't complain.
These are things I'm trying to tell myself right now after experiencing a few hurtful things recently. These things have caused me to evaluate why I make the decisions that I do. They have made me re-focus on the fact that it's not about me, but about doing what He would want me to do. The worldly side of me wants to change, retreat, become "less nice and forgiving". The part of me that knows Christ is thankful for this relatively unpainful reminder of why I am a "nice person".

Hi Kathy. I have read this post 3 times and have been thinking about it. In our Wednesday night class we are talking about forgiveness and we read Matthew 5:28-32. Interesting stuff. I was especially interested in the verse that talks about how we are suppose to let others borrow something if they ask.... I agree with you. Even though sometimes we get hurt by giving, it is a small price to pay... and plus, think of the all the times you have felt wonderful after you have given/helped/etc.!!
