Not seeing so well...

Most of you know that I have worn glasses for most of my life. I got glasses when I was in the 4th grade. I remember getting them but I don't remember what a difference they made in my vision. My near-sightedness has continued to get worse throughout my life. The doctors tell me that eventually they will not keep changing, but so far they haven't stopped.

I inherited my vision from my father, I think...his eyes are pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as mine. My brother also wore glasses, but his eyes were never nearly as bad as mine.

Brent got glasses about 5 years ago. Several of my cousin's children (on my mom's side) also have glasses for near-sightedness.

Why am I telling you this? Because despite all of the above, I was actually surprised when the school nurse referred Nolan to the eye doctor. I knew that there was a chance that one or both of my children will need glasses, but I guess I just didn't want to believe it. Nolan is an excellent student and reader, so I assumed that all was well with his vision.

We took him to the eye doctor (it was such a hard decision choosing between Bonnie and Bobby!) and Brent and I both accompanied him. We both thought that he was not wanting to participate in the eye exam when he said that he couldn't read the letters. Then, when the prescription was put in front of him, it quickly became clear that he wasn't kidding, he really couldn't see them.

So, now Nolan has joined the others in our family with glasses. They are very cute glasses...gold colored wire rimmed frames made by Nike. He was a little apprehensive to put them on, but when he did he looked out the window and said, "Now I can see that the tree has branches!" Later, when watching TV, he said, "Now I can see the characters!" Wow!!

He is doing well with his glasses and he looks very good in them. I will post pictures later.

Oh, How Cute. Chris is really afraid that our children will inherit his sight - it is bad! At least you have the GREATEST eye doctors EVER!!

I remember my first glasses in 4th grade too! I am hoping that Cole & Savannah get their Daddy's 20/20 vision! I think kids look so cute in glasses though! Post some pics soon...
