Baby Shower

On Sunday afternoon, I was privileged to attend my first baby shower for Baby Mariah. I was really happy to get to see family and friends that I don't get to see very often and also some that I do get to see frequently. I got lots of great gifts - primarily PINK, of course, which I've never gotten to experience. I got some adorable clothing for her to wear. I got a Bumbo seat and tray. The lamp that matches the bedding for the nursery. I got a diaper bag, monitor, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, umbrella stroller, and more. Each and every gift is very special to me.

I will be having another shower on Thursday that my coworkers are throwing.

I just can't express how thankful and blessed I am to have such wonderful people in our family's lives. God is awesome!!
So, hopefully, by now you've had time to put the following in the order you would take care of them if they were all happening at the same time.

It turns out that this little exercise is a good way to evaluate your value system (according to the speaker that I heard it from)

If you put "baby crying" as the first thing you would take care of, then your 1st priority is FAMILY.

Wherever you put "telephone rings" in your rankings, that's the order that you put JOB in.

The "doorbell ringing" stands for the value system of INNER CIRCLE FRIENDS.

Those of you that ranked "kitchen sink water running" high on your list place high importance on MONEY in your value system.

Finally, if you thought you'd deal with the "laundry outside in a pouring rain" first then you highly value SEX and ROMANCE. (There were 2 ways that he put this I can't remember what he said about those who put it very high on the list but I did jot down in my notes that if it was low on your list you could apply it as "when things at the top of the list are working, then this becomes more meaningful".

I know...I know...I have lots going on in my life. I'm busy. I'm about to have a new baby. I have plenty of projects/hobbies available. BUT - I have another hobby that I'd like to begin. Here is some of the vocabulary I've come across in researching for this hobby:

jelly rolls, layer cakes, honey buns, dessert rolls, turnovers

Does anyone know what the hobby is that I'm researching???
At a conference at my previous work, we had a speaker that we listened to. I found the notes from an activity that he did with us. I thought it was really neat so I kept them. Do this activity and then in a few days, I'll reveal the meaning.

All 5 of the things below are occurring at the same time, rank the order in which you take care of them:

___ Laundry is outside in a pouring rain.
___ Telephone is ringing.
___ The kitchen sink faucet is running.
___ The baby is crying.
___ The doorbell is ringing.

33 weeks

So, little Mariah has been growing for 7 months now. We have 7 weeks left - give or take - depending on her plan.

I went to see Dr. Mills today. I got the good words, "you've only gained 1 lb since last time." My blood pressure was great - although the lady who took my blood pressure was a different person than usual - and she was concerned because the bottom number was only 56. Then she looked at my chart and realized that's normal for me. Good genes I inherited from my grandma.

The doctor says I'm doing PERFECT!! I laughed sarcastically, because he obviously doesn't know how I've been acting. But, from his perspective, having seen the things that he's seen, I guess I should trust when he says that I'm doing perfect.

I have 3 showers coming up in the next several weeks - one this Sunday being hosted by Brent's mom and my mom, one at work next Thursday that my friend Sally has coordinated, and one on March 14th at the church building. Mariah is so blessed to have friends and family that love her already!!

On the one hand, I'm getting anxious. On the other hand, I know what having a newborn will be like so I'm trying not to rush things. I don't know how to mentally prepare myself for the sleepless days/nights, the breastfeeding, the adjustment for the kids (and all of us), etc. Any suggestions? I have said during my other pregnancies and this one also that it's too bad that you can't store up sleep! Regardless of what Mariah's first few days, weeks, months are like I want to try to savor every moment because I know that they will go by quickly.
Today on the way home from daycare Elijah said "when was this road made?" I said, "I don't know. We'll have to ask your daddy because he's lived here a lot longer than I have. He might remember." Elijah says, "I know!! Jesus made this road after he made the dirt and grass." Nolan says "No, Elijah that's not right." How was I to explain this to my cutie pie Elijah??? I said, "well, actually man made this road with things that God gave us" Elijah says, "No, mom, Jesus' friends were his helpers and they were nice and they made this road after Jesus made the dirt."

"okay Elijah..."

To Nolan, I said - "Well, the road was made after the dirt and grass but it was a LONG Time later."

Yesterday Elijah brought home a paper that he made in his class at daycare. It said "This makes me happy..." at the top of the paper. There were 2 pictures: 1 of a monkey and 1 of Hilary Swank. I looked over the paper and then said to Elijah - "these are the things that make you happy - monkeys and ???" He came over, looked at the paper, and then said, "that's you mom, you make me happy." That was the sweetest thing that he's said lately. I still smile when I think of this. So, I'm sure he's the ONLY one who thinks I look anything like Hilary Swank!!
