4th of July
Independence Day is more than a chance for family and friends throughout the country to gather for cookouts and fireworks, it is an annual celebration to commemorate the courage and faith of our founding fathers in their pursuit of liberty. Please thank any Veterans you know for their sacrifices for our country. I never appreciated their sacrifices until I started working with them on a daily basis. Some of them suffered greatly for their service. All of them made the choice to serve their country. They've helped us have our freedom which we should truly appreciate. We have freedom to serve God and worship Him.
Thinking of their sacrifice also reminds me of God's ultimate sacrifice of His son for our sins. Without that we wouldn't be able to one day enjoy life with Him in heaven.

Recent moments with the boys...
NOLAN
Mom, now I just have to figure out...which came first the Bible characters or the dinosaurs.
+++++++
I picked out this book (at the library). He hands it to me - it's titled Evolution Revolution, From Darwin to DNA. (YIKES! - I'm thinking. Okay, I say, because I'm sure that not allowing him to check it out isn't the right answer. I add, "Your dad and I will look at that book with you."
We've at least already chatted once about how some people don't believe that God created the earth.
+++++++
ELIJAH
_______, why do you have a bubble in your belly? (We haven't figured this one out yet.)
Mom, for Christmas, I want a guitar of my very own. (This is notable because Nolan has a small guitar that Michael gave him when he was 3 years old and Nolan doesn't like it when Elijah tries to play with it.)
When looking at pictures of when his daddy was born: Mommy, did Papaw Joe come over to spend the night with Daddy and Nana? (Oh boy, I have such a hard time explaining our disjointed family to the boys.)
The main subject of Elijah's conversations: Caroline Dill. Elijah loves that girl! Her mother (Ms Amber) and I are convinced they might get married because she loves him just as much. Everywhere we go and everything we do we hear about Caroline. She is "his mommy" and he is the daddy. They have a baby who is basically his imaginary friend. For a long time we thought he wanted a baby sister but eventually I figured out that this is their CHILD!! She has no name though. He didn't bring her to the beach - she stayed at Grandma's house. Grandma was with us though but he didn't seemed concerned that his baby was alone. One day he said she died. Don't worry she's back to life now. So here is a sampling of what we hear about Caroline:
That house over there is the house me and Caroline are going to stay in when we come to the beach. We will take your camper when we go to Boone though. Is that okay mom?
Me and Caroline are going to come to this gas station.
Me and Caroline are going to shop for groceries here.
Me and Caroline are going to swim in this pool too okay mom?
When I get my monster truck, I'm going to take Caroline riding in it.
When looking at the guest bedroom in the new house: this is Caroline's room. This is Caroline's bathroom.
So you see there's no question in my mind that little boys are just WIRED to like little girls!!! Ms Amber took a picture of Elijah and Caroline taking a nap side by side at day care. When I get it I will have to post it. Too cute!!

My kids are growing up!
When I stop and think about my sweet boys I think about how big they are getting and I think that is awesome and scary. It is awesome to me because I am just in awe when I stand back and look at them and see how smart and independent and self-sufficient that they are becoming.
This year at the beach was the first year since Nolan was born that I really got to sit back and enjoy our vacation. It was our first year without diapers and the first year that both of the boys really enjoyed the ocean and pool and could entertain theirselves some. That may seem strange to you that it's been 6 years since I could really ENJOY the annual vacation, but it has really taken a good amount of time for us to get adjusted after I FINALLY graduated from college (again). During that time I learned to be busy and productive EVERY moment and so I have struggled since that time in remembering to just sit and be quiet and appreciate my life and my children. I am finally beginning to get there - but I still have a very difficult time doing NOTHING.
Nolan will be 7 in August and will be starting the 2nd grade soon. He is growing so quickly before my eyes and I am so anxious yet fearful for him to grow up. I can't wait to see what he chooses to do with that mind of his! Elijah will be 4 in November but he has to wait through 2 more full school years due to his birthday before he can begin. He is going to be such a BIG kindergartener in 2011! He is learning so much at preschool - Ms Amber and Ms Becky have been working with them on their alphabet and he can almost write his name. (that is something that he started doing on his own - they didn't work on that with him! not that I'm bragging or anything!)
Brent and I pray continually for wisdom for parenting and also that the boys will turn their lives over to Him. God will lead us but I still have to admit that when I stop and think about how big the responsibility of raising children is I am overwhelmed and fearful!

Happy 10th Anniversary!!!
Today is a special day in my life. Today is mine and Brent's 10th wedding anniversary. When we were married 10 years ago I had no idea how difficult yet amazing marriage would be. It is hard for me to believe that we have been married for 10 years. It has really flown by - we have done a lot since we were married in 1999. We have both changed careers. I have finished my bachelor's degree, obtained my masters degree, and become a registered dietitian since we married. Brent has finished paramedic school and has become a supervisor at EMS where he works. Brent has joined the volunteer fire department and is now the assistant chief. We have had 2 amazing and wonderful boys. I have had 4 knee surgeries - no joke. We experienced the loss of my grandmother and brother. We have added lots of animals to our family. We have purchased a camper and went on numerous vacations and weekend trips in it. We have gone on several cruises. We have made so many memories together. We have been through good and bad times. We have had good strong moments in our marriage and some that left us wondering if our marriage would survive (and without turning to God it might not have). We have created and also paid off lots of debt since we married. Through all of these, God has been with us and we have tried to cling to Him and find his desires for our lives.
I want you to know, Brent, how much I love you and how proud I am to call you my husband. There are no words to tell you how much I love and appreciate you. I want you to know that I still believe in the vows that we took 10 years ago and I still feel the same about you. No, that's not right, I have grown to love you even more than I ever thought possible. I enjoy spending my life with you and I can't wait to see what the next 10 years bring us! I love you!!
